Clinique Chantecler Marseille

Therapeutic education programme

The clinic offers its patients the opportunity to take part in a therapeutic education programme entitled "Therapeutic education programme for diabetic patients with or without amputations".

What is therapeutic education?

"Illness, however debilitating and permanent, does not diminish a person's autonomy insofar as they have learnt to integrate it into their life, to make it one of the components of their personality.

This is precisely one of the expected outcomes of therapeutic education [...]. It seems that this is where health can be assessed by the patient themselves: have I managed to make my own the particular health situation I am experiencing? In other words, have I managed to derive as much benefit as possible from it for my reconstruction [...]. What's more, well-being also manifests itself in patients' ability to share their knowledge and experience, and in their solidarity with other patients".

Philippe BARRIER, philosopher and Doctor of Education.

The aim of therapeutic education is to help patients acquire or maintain the knowledge they need to manage their illness on a daily basis.

This programme helps to improve the health and quality of life of patients and their families by :

  • Acquiring and/or maintaining self-care skills (taking into account the results of a self-test, performing technical procedures and care, implementing lifestyle changes, involving family and friends in managing the disease, etc.).
  • Acquiring coping skills (stress management, decision-making, setting goals, etc.).

This personalised therapeutic education programme comprises 3 stages:

  • Educational diagnosis.
  • Planning and implementing individual or group therapeutic education sessions, or alternating sessions.
  • Evaluation of the skills acquired and the progress of the programme.

The professionals who will accompany you throughout your programme are :

  • A PRM (physical medicine and rehabilitation) doctor
  • A dietician
  • Physiotherapists
  • A psychologist
  • Trained nurses
  • An occupational therapist
  • A psychomotor therapist
  • An ortho-prosthetist
