Leaving hospital

Discharge formalities

The date of discharge is decided by the doctor. If your health requires it, and under certain conditions, transport by ambulance or VSL may be paid for (on medical prescription).

On the day of discharge, certain administrative formalities must be carried out at the admissions office:

  • Check your administrative file and complete it if necessary
  • Pay any hospitalisation charges for which you are responsible; you will be given an invoice.
  • Withdraw any securities you may have deposited.
  • Withdraw the hospitalisation forms specifying the dates of your stay for your employer or health insurance fund.

The discharge of a minor or protected adult requires the presence of a parent or guardian.

What exactly are the costs?

  • Accommodation costs (care services)

80% of these are covered by the health insurance scheme. You will be responsible for the remaining 20%, unless you have supplementary health insurance cover (mutuelle, assurance complémentaire or CMU).
You will be exempt from the co-payment from the 31st day of hospitalisation or in the event of an accident at work/occupational illness or in the event of a long-term illness (100% ALD).

  • The insured contribution

The PASS is payable if a procedure performed during hospitalisation has a coefficient equal to or greater than K60 or a tariff equal to or greater than €120. In this case, you will be exempt from co-payment.

  • Daily rate (hotel services)

The fixed daily rate is payable by all persons admitted to full hospitalisation (including the day of discharge) unless covered by your mutual insurance or insurance company. The amount is set each year by ministerial decree.

  • Hotel supplements (on request)

Private room, television, etc.

  • Additional fees

The practitioners providing your care may have opted for the free-fee sector. In this case, they are authorised to charge extra fees, which you will have to pay.

The hospital is not involved in determining these extra fees, but it may collect them on behalf of the doctors.

If you are not covered by social security, you will have to pay the full cost. Foreign nationals who do not have social insurance must present the appropriate form.
All current fees are displayed at the admissions desk.
